DON'T BE THE BEST KEPT SECRET IN TOWN
In 2001, I planted my first church. People came and people went. It was like we had a revolving door! We did a great job welcoming people. Our problem was keeping them.
I was a pastor, not a business guy. So I wanted to focus on people, not processes. I thought a bunch of church systems would ruin our warmth and wreck the church.
By not addressing my need to develop my organizational leadership skills, I unintentionally sabotaged my calling and stunted the growth of the church. As a result, we failed to reach, connect, and empower more people in Gospel life and ministry.
I became so frustrated that I almost gave up!
Then I discovered leadership at the next level entails cultivating proven relational systems and processes for greater church health that greater Kingdom growth.
One day an older church planter and leadership coach showed me the Parable of the Growing Seed. Jesus says:
“This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.” - Mark 4:26-29
This changed my perspective. I finally understood: “God is giving me the responsibility to partner with Him and His people to cultivate a healthy environment where more people can stick, take root, grow, and bear fruit.”
Pastors and ministry teams are called to create the optimal environment for as many people as possible. Jesus causes the growth. That’s His promise: “I will build my Church,” and He commissions us to partner with Him to make it happen.

MEET MATT KESSLER
Hey! I’m so glad you found Revelo. I provide Gospel guidance for spiritual, emotional, and relational health. Through transformational leadership coaching, spiritual direction, marriage care, online courses, and wilderness adventure - I encourage and equip followers of Christ to thrive in their identity, freedom, and influence.
I have over 28 years of experience in leadership and ordained ministry - serving as a pastor, church planter, regional leader, and missionary bishop in the Anglican Communion. I’ve planted two churches, started several non-profits, and taught numerous training workshops. I’m a certified leadership coach, spiritual director, and wilderness survival instructor. I’ve been married to Amanda for 24 years, and we have three children 20, 16, and 14 (and two Australian shepherds).
